IT'S ALIVE, ALIIIIVE!!!!!

My Art Blog My Youtube

So, as you may or may not know, I am a self-taught aspiring animator.
Well, I'm working on a short right now featuring my character Arty. it will be my first short with voice acting in it.
I'm fortunate enough to have a good friend by the name of Michael Williams willing to do the voice work for me. he's a bloody fantastic Actor, Director, and Comedian, so I was very excited to be working with him on my own project.

but I was a little bit nervous about what he would come up with as the voice of Arty. Arty is very special to me, as his simple and fun design has allowed me to practice art-related things without fear, and thus really helped me develop as an artist. it may sound odd, but Arty has become like a friend or a child to me, and not just a character. in a completely non-schizophrenic way, that is.

so when Michael sent me take one of Arty's lines, I was nervous.  I was plagued by those little niggling doubts that have little excuse to actually exist. you know the ones: "What if he didn't get the character? what if Arty sounds nothing like I expect? what if what if what if..."
that was all really ridiculous of my brain to imagine, because I'm familiar with the skill and high quality of Mr. Williams' work. this is a guy who, among an impressive list of other things, recently brought Doctor Horrible to life LIVE on stage, and did approximately a million-gazillion times BETTER then Neil Patrick Harris. not just in my opinion either, but in everyone who came to see it. (which was 630+ people)

anyway, I've gotten offtrack.

so I open the file, and a concentrated lightning bolt of PURE COMEDIC BRILLIANCE is shot directly into my brain via my headphones.
OMG. I mean, OMG. I gotta geek out here a second, WOW, it's ARTY, SPEAKING!

Drawing Arty in different settings as I have started to give him a character. Animating him has added personality. but the voice....it gave him LIFE.

ARTY LIVES!
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

So Many, Many Thanks to Michael Williams, for being the lightning bolt that awoke my creation. You're in trouble now bro, gonna get you some voice-acting work.

off to animate!
GEEK, OUT!
