5. Collect more Funny Hats.
Just put my order in for my first 'PowerUp rewards' prize...
it's a Goomba Laplander.
That is, a Hat, that is styled to resemble a Goomba.
That I can wear. On my head. A Goomba...on my head....
Look!!
I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I can't wait!! I just got the e-mail saying that it shipped.
You may be wondering why I'm so excited...well;
1. I adore, constantly wear, and collect funny hats.
2. I adore Nintendo games.
3. Goombas have always been my second favorite thing in the entire Mario universe.
4. I am a fairly short person, who often gets literally stepped on. so this is perfect for me.
the only way I could get more excited for a game themed hat would be if it were an Eevee, with the ears and everything.
Did I mention that I'm getting this completely free? with points that I earned by purchasing games I would have anyway? didn't even have to pay shipping, W00T!
Now I'm going to go camp by the mailbox until this arrives.
I am a Gamer. a very big gamer. I spend more time per week playing games then I do watching movies, watching television and going outside combined.
what I'm trying to say here is I play a lot of games. as such, I'm always looking for new games to master. but in the past few years there has been an invasion of what people are calling 'Casual Games'.
Some of them are great! (Angry Birds, Plants Vs Zombies, Bejeweled) I love them, and I can pick them up and play a little any time I want, with no worries about having to commit hours of my limited time to the game. which is kind of the definition of 'Casual'.
However, I would like to complain at a turn the industry has taken recently, thanks in no small part to Zynga and the Facebook Gaming Community.
What I would like to complain about is the sudden obsession games have with telling you how long you can play, and how long you have to wait until you play again.
for an example, look to any game that employs the 'Energy' system.
the game gives you a certain number of points you can spend doing a certain number of actions, and then you have to wait for the energy to rebuild. while you're waiting...there's nothing left to do in the game, because EVERYTHING takes energy.
of course you can always earn more energy by paying REAL MONEY to regain energy.
the only other option is waiting an average of 5 minutes for every point of energy.
so you leave the game to go do something else, and continue playing tomorrow.
but oh no, your crops are now withered, kingdom is invaded, wife is stolen, dog ran away, and your animals are dead all because you didn't use your energy in time.
so you fall into a cycle of going into the game a few times a day to keep up with it. but if you miss an appointment, you lose progress.
At this point, this game is no longer casual, as it claims to be. it is a fragile relationship that decays if you don't pay enough attention to it.
Suddenly you find yourself distracted and worried when you are not playing the game.
"Did I start the 3 hour job, or the 2? did I remember to water my flowers? I wonder if my horse has enough energy to race again?"
GAMES SHOULD NOT CAUSE STRESS.
Playing should relieve stress. that is the point of gaming.
because these games Force you into these cycles, it creates an imposed addiction that has you compulsively checking the game every few hours. like game Crack.
What is that you say, Hypothetical Blog Reader? I should just avoid those games if I don't like that?
Ok, let's try. I'll leave facebook which is bogged down with those games, and go play on my ipod.
Oh Look! Sims came out with a free game! "Sims Freeplay" I love the Sims! Sweet Gaming Freedom, here I come!
what's that? My sim is sleeping, come back in 4 hours?
EA.....I hate you. -_-
Developers, I'm really not asking much. I just want to actually play the game you made, when I actually have time to play it. instead of being told when and how much I can play. or if you really want the energy or timed feature, at least add other content I can play with while waiting for things to grow/recharge/whatever. don't mask the shallowness of your game with a timer. Please.
I would write more, but it's time for me to check and see if I have more energy in Castleville. Curse you, Zynga. got me addicted again. >.<
I would totally try to aim to see every single cartoon ever released...but that seems like too much work to try to track them all down...
so I'll start with some favorites of mine I had growing up, with recommendations from my friends thrown in for good measure. I want to see entire series, instead of the occasional episode. the goal being so I can see how the shows and characters progress, study the animation, and also so I can watch some great cartoons.
this post will be edited and updated as I make my way through the classics (and some newer ones too.)
Any recommendations for my list would be greatly appreciated! ^_^
it doesn't have to be a t.v. cartoon, web series count too! ^_^

-My Little Pony (2011) (1.5 seasons watched)
Shows I stopped watching, and the reasons why:
none yet
Finished:
only qualifies as finished if I've seen EVERY episode ever published.
IN ORDER.
Yeah. I'm strict with my hobbies. X3
-Freakazoid
-Making Fiends
Wow, that's a long list...guess I better get busy!
Well, just finished the last ever episode of Freakzoid. totally cried a little bit at the end song there.
why havn't they rebooted this series like they did with so many others?
I mean seriously, leave the Thundercats in the 80s and BRING BACK FREAKAZOID!
just sayin'.
ok, I'm done.
so now I need a new series to watch & study on youtube. or I could go back to Animaniacs and finish watching those...I'm still only as far as 2/3rds of the way through season 2.
in other news, I think I have the title sequence for my Arty cartoons plotted out. ^_^ been stressing about that ever since I sent my script to a voice actor buddy of mine. here's hoping it pans out. we'll see what happens.
in other other news, I'm a huge Theatre... geek? person? creature? rat? I dunno, what do people who work in Theatre alot call themselves? no, not Actor..gosh no, I'm not one of those.
I'm a Techie. I'm constantly in Tech week for some show or other. I don't even know how I end up working these shows half of the time, but I do it anyway. usually, if I have a choice, I'll work the sound board. but sometimes I'm recruited for backstage work. which is cool, but not as cool as working in the booth.
'cause then you can see the show too! ^_^
at any rate, I'm currently enrolled in two shows. one is this coming week, called Christmas Chaos. still not entirely certain what I'll be doing for that, but I'm sure it will be fun. the next one is Arsenic and Old Lace. great show, and it's being directed by a buddy of mine. he's giving me the chance to try my hand at designing lights. I'm excited, looking forward to playing with lights! ^__^
in other other OTHER news... I just downloaded Final Fantasy Tactics on my iPod and it ROCKS. the touchscreen controls are fantabulous, and the game has been given new cutscenes and voice acting, and they even re-translated the storyline so it's not as confusing as the old playstation version!!! I'm not too far into it yet, but I know I'm going to sink a bajillion hours into it. ^_^ perhaps I'll do a proper review soon.
in Other Other other OTHER news... I've decided to save for an ipad 2 and Wacom Bamboo Stylus for the ipad.
I've been thinking on it ever since the first ipad came out, but I decided for certain today after seeing this video;
So. Much. Drool.
if I had one of those, I could work on my animations on the go. ^_^~♥ and since I am ALWAYS on the go, it means I would get approximatly a bajillion million times more work done.
Toonboom even made an animating app for it... which, I think, means that the files could potentially be compatible with Studio. I'm not entirely certain about that bit yet though.
in OTHER OTHER OTHER... okay, I'll stop. >.> sorry.
so, it has really just absolutely KILLED me to try to keep my art blog just about art things. I needed an outlet for all the geeky things I know and love, somewhere where I can just talk to myself all I want without worrying about a target audience or trying to be useful or anything. a place where I could go and pretend I had friends who would be interested in all of the minutia of every geeky thing I want to talk about.
a place kind of like this :D
where I don't have to put up any fronts at all, and can be my geeky self any time I want.
thus, 'Ahh, GEEK OUT!' was created.
A blog where I turn into a great big Geekazoid.
Named after Dexter Douglas' tag line he yells to turn into Freakazoid.
"Ahh, FREAK OUT!"
see the resemblance?
yeah, me neither. >_>
well, that segways neatly into my first geek out session!
I've been addicted to watching Freakazoid...Again.
like seriously, I'm thinking of starting a support group for all of the Freakazoid fans that still exist. I probably would too, if I didn't have too many projects going already.
I can't believe that show only lasted TWO seasons! TWO! TWOOO! I mean, WHYYYYY?!?!?!?! *SOBS violently*
it was pure genius! I know it's taboo to say, but I always loved it more than Animaniacs. and I seriously love me some Animaniacs. THAT'S how much I love Freakazoid.
I would have loved to see more character development, and longer storyline threads, but that is seriously my only complaint.
well, that and the fact it only ran for two seasons... TT_TT
Fav Characters
1. Dexter Douglas = ♥
2.THE NARRATOR....=♥♥♥ loved him in Space Quest, love him still in Freakazoid, and would love to find more projects he's done. When I realized he was the same Narrator from Space Quest, I seriously geeked out. called my sister in, proved it to her, and then we both geeked out.
(me and my sister, geeking out)
I just adore the character type this guy played in both Space Quest and Freakazoid. and to my shame...I cannot remember his name.
3. Freakazoid - OBVIOUSLY. he's the freakin' main character, and freakin' AMAZING. especially when he's 'flying' around. X3 and yes, I said freakin'. because he's the Freakazoid. he like, freaks, and things. so it's totally appropriate. Freakin'.
4. Cosgrove - Somebody give this man a medal and a promotion. seriously, he was an awesome policeman. even if he was goofing off all the time, he ALWAYS knew what was going on, and what should probably be done about it. without even trying.
5. The Lobe - heheheheheh! Best villain of the series, easily. but then, I've always been partial to the Mad Scientist type, especially if he's sarcastic.
I love The Lobe's relationship with Freakazoid. the Frenemy thing they have going on just makes me happy. ^_^
6. Emmitt Nervend - the first few times I saw this guy, he freaked me out, but I grew to love him. every time he shows up, I point my finger and go "NERVEND! :D!!" ...it's a fun game. :)
7. Mo-Ron - I just wanna give this guy a hug. this guy is just trying his best!
8. Armando Guitierrez - KHAAAAAAAAN!!
9. Weena Mercator, aka 'The Hopping Woman' - makes me giggle every time her name is said. I also like to think that this is Steph's real name. just to give Steph some character.
Least fav Characters
it isn't that I hate them...but I don't really like them...
1. FANBOY.... *shudder*
okay, so I know I'm technically a Fangirl... and I actually know real people EXACTLY like Fanboy (nasal-voice included) but they aren't quite as creepy as he is...why did they have to make him soo creepy... >.< I dunno. I just know I would keep my pepper spray in my hand around him. in high school he was probably voted 'Most likely to murder his family, friends, and everyone else in the tri-state area in an attempt to recreate the final scene from X-Men 3'
2. Steph - boooorriiiing... she has less personality then my shoelaces. no, I take that back, because my shoelaces have these awesome pirate skulls on them. so my shoelaces have approximately a billions times more personality then she does. a cardboard cut-out of her silhouette could do her job more convincingly.
even in just writing this bit about her, I got so bored that I went back and revised my opening paragraph and re-read the rest of the post, except for this bit because it was so BORING. moving on now, before I fall asleep.
I would like to say in closing, Freakazoid is just such a wonderful show. rewatching the episodes actually helped me alot with my animating. (I'm an aspiring Animator, btw. so watching cartoons is homework for me ^_^) I've always adored the WB style, even though it wasn't as smooth, clean, and lifelike as Disney's polished style. WB cartoons always have this ZIP to them, a bit of sparkle that Disney usually doesn't. I can't really explain it, since I don't quite have enough knowledge as to what causes that Zip. except maybe being under a super tight deadline as the WB animators always were. I can only hope my cartoons are half as interesting to watch as Freakazoid one day. n_n
