weird everyday phrases that we just don't think about. Part 1

My Art Blog My Youtube

you know what is a weird thing? when somebody asks you "How are you?"
the only logical responses are "I am." or "I currently exist, but I know not how."
How am I supposed to respond to that question? I mean really, I am supposed to explain the inner workings of my physical, spiritial, and emotional self and summerize it in a polite response, which often takes the form of the kneejerk response: "I'm good, how are you?"

We have so many common phrases that, if you spare a moment to think of them, they really don't make sense.
Random musings of a semi-bored geek.
I should sleep. I should also update more often.

it doesn't make much (ad)Sense, but...

My Art Blog My Youtube

first off, this post is not sarcastic. I'm dead serious here.

Ok, so I have adsense enabled on my youtube, which, for those who don't know means that youtube puts ads on your video, and if you're very lucky, you earn an extremly small share of the advertising.

I just realized that I absolutely love checking my adsense account. I check it once a day, and usually there's nothing there. but every now and then, someone will view one of my youtube videos and watch the ad or something, and suddenly it will deposit a penny into my adsense account. Just a penny, but that penny makes me unreasonably happy all day. I'm weird, I know, but really - I get seriously excited when I see I've earned a whole penny!

true, I can't actually HAVE the pennies until my account reaches $100.00, but still, with every penny I'm a penny closer to that goal! I'm not advertising here, seriously, I'm just saying how ridiculously happy I get when I randomly earn a penny.

I mean, I know it's just a penny, and in this economy it isn't worth it's weight to carry it around, but still. to click my bookmark for adsense and see

Estimated earnings

$0.01

Today so far
just inexplicably makes me HAPPY. =D and seriously excited, and I instantly announce it to my family.
"OMG YOU GUYS!!! I EARNED A PENNY TODAY!!!!"

I don't really know why.
but I'm not complaining, it makes me happy =D

Also, sorry I haven't been updating much, I do have much to update about. so much that I haven't had the time to update properly. but I'll be working extra hard soon to get this blog all caught up in my geeky adventures.

until that time though, I suppose I should

IT'S ALIVE, ALIIIIVE!!!!!

My Art Blog My Youtube

So, as you may or may not know, I am a self-taught aspiring animator.
Well, I'm working on a short right now featuring my character Arty. it will be my first short with voice acting in it.
I'm fortunate enough to have a good friend by the name of Michael Williams willing to do the voice work for me. he's a bloody fantastic Actor, Director, and Comedian, so I was very excited to be working with him on my own project.

but I was a little bit nervous about what he would come up with as the voice of Arty. Arty is very special to me, as his simple and fun design has allowed me to practice art-related things without fear, and thus really helped me develop as an artist. it may sound odd, but Arty has become like a friend or a child to me, and not just a character. in a completely non-schizophrenic way, that is.

so when Michael sent me take one of Arty's lines, I was nervous.  I was plagued by those little niggling doubts that have little excuse to actually exist. you know the ones: "What if he didn't get the character? what if Arty sounds nothing like I expect? what if what if what if..."
that was all really ridiculous of my brain to imagine, because I'm familiar with the skill and high quality of Mr. Williams' work. this is a guy who, among an impressive list of other things, recently brought Doctor Horrible to life LIVE on stage, and did approximately a million-gazillion times BETTER then Neil Patrick Harris. not just in my opinion either, but in everyone who came to see it. (which was 630+ people)

anyway, I've gotten offtrack.

so I open the file, and a concentrated lightning bolt of PURE COMEDIC BRILLIANCE is shot directly into my brain via my headphones.
OMG. I mean, OMG. I gotta geek out here a second, WOW, it's ARTY, SPEAKING!

Drawing Arty in different settings as I have started to give him a character. Animating him has added personality. but the voice....it gave him LIFE.

ARTY LIVES!
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

So Many, Many Thanks to Michael Williams, for being the lightning bolt that awoke my creation. You're in trouble now bro, gonna get you some voice-acting work.

off to animate!

♥♥ !!THERE'S A GOOMBA ON MY HEAD!! ♥♥

My Art Blog My Youtube

*dances and sings* I've got a Goomba hat, I've got a Goomba hat, I've got a Goomba hat, Hey hey hey HEY!

just got it today. I've been checking the mail religiously everyday at 4pm, except for today when I checked it on my way to rehearsal.

and there it was...a small, squishy white package resting serenely on the bottom of my mailbox. I let it sit for a moment, knowing it would be the last serene moment the hat ever had. When I couldn't stand it any longer, I tore it from the box of mail, clutched it to my heart and ran all the way back to the van, a sound not unlike the word "SQUEE" emanating from my lips the entire way.

the trip to rehearsal consisted of me battling the impenetrable white packaging Gamestop had armored the hat with to protect it from the Postal service.
Luckily I had my Key of Slicing +3 on hand, and the package stood little chance against my funny-hat-loving-fueled fury.

the last vestiges of the packaging fell away and I caught my first glimpse of reddish-brown material, the snarky glaring eyes, cocky eyebrows, snaggle-toothed frown, and the fuzzy pompoms. I gasped audibly.
it was love at first sight.

at this point my vehicle arrived at the designated rehearsal spot, so I quickly replaced my stripey bandanna that actually went with my outfit with the fantabulous Goomba hat, slamming it over my untameable hair and running out the door.

Doing so I may have committed the cardinall fashion no-no of wearing brown with black, but really - who cares? IT'S A GOOMBA! let the fashion police just TRY to catch me, MWAHAHAHAH!
so long as they don't wear blue overalls and a red hat, I think I'll be fine.

after rehearsal ended, someone commented "Love the Angry Bird hat!"

O_O

CURSE YOU, CASUAL GAMERS!
And now, For the promised pictures!
(heheh, even small doses of alliteration is fun!)

I know it was an honest mistake and I'm not ragging on that person, this is a real question. does this look like any kind of bird at all? what bird has jutting fangs? the eyes, yeah, I could see that...but the mouth and fangs and total absence of a beak... if there is a bird that looks like a goomba, I wanna learn about it, catch one, name it Goomball (if it's a boy) or Goombella (if it's a girl) and keep it as a pet.

yeah. I'm done ranting now.

this hat makes me too happy to rant. ^_^
I'm gonna go be happy now, and play angry birds with my hat.
